This diskette contains a self-expanding archive, ks50mac.sea, which will create folders containing all the Macintosh components for KeyServer 5.0: client, administrator, and server.
* Updating from previous 5.0 components
Before running the installer, you must quit any installed copies of the KeyServer components (e.g., KeyServer). If you point the installer to an existing KeyServer 5.0 folder, newer component versions will replace existing ones, but your own custom KeyServer data and your server.lic license certificate file will be untouched.
* KeyServer License Certificate
In order for the server program (KeyServer) to run, there must be a valid license certificate file present in the KeyServer data folder. The file named “server.lic” enables KeyServer with a unique serial number and license attributes. This “license certificate” is authorized for use on a single computer – either Windows or Macintosh, but not both. You may not make copies except for backup purposes. It is your obligation to protect the electronic license certificate from theft, from un-authorized use, and from use on more than one single computer. In addition to the legal prohibitions, usage of the same serial number by more than one KeyServer could lead to unpredictable behavior of both the client and administrator software.
* PC Exchange needed for Macintosh to read DOS diskette
At the end of the Macintosh installation process, the installer will request that you insert the “License & Documentation” diskette so it can copy the file “server.lic” into the appropriate folder. The “License & Documentation” diskette is in DOS format, so your Mac must have the PC Exchange control panel installed in order to read it. If you will be running the KeyServer program from a Windows computer, there is no need to copy the server.lic file to a Macintosh. In this case, you can cancel the Macintosh installer’s request for the “License & Documentation” diskette.
* Placement of the "server.lic" License Certificate file
If the installation archives are launched from a hard disk instead of from the diskettes, or if you have obtained your “server.lic” file via e-mail or download, you may have to copy the server.lic file manually to its proper location after the install has finished. In order to run the server program (KeyServer), the server.lic file must be placed in the folder called “KeyServer Data Folder” (a sub-folder of the folder named “KeyServer”).
* Don’t over-write your custom server.lic file
The “License & Documentation” archive available from the Sassafras web server contains a 10 client EVAL version of the server.lic file. If you obtained the “License & Documentation” archive from the web, be sure to use your own unique server.lic file, unless you intend to install the EVAL.
* Important 4.2 upgrade documentation
If you are upgrading from an earlier version (4.2 or previous) of KeyServer,the upgrade proceedure must be followed carefully to avoid lost data. See the "Upgrading to KeyServer 5.0" appendix in the "Getting Started" book that came with the KeyServer Package. This document is also available in html format as part of the online documentation either from www.sassafras.com or from the documentation diskette.
